On 30th December, Fr. Leo Pyle retired from his ministry as Parish Priest of Saint John’s, Haydon Bridge and Saint Wilfrid’s, Haltwhistle. Fr Pyle has served as a priest of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle since his Ordination on 25th July 1957.
A special Mass in Thanksgiving for Fr. Pyle’s Priestly Ministry was celebrated at Saint Mary’s in Hexham, on Saturday 16th February. Local clergy turned out in force to pay tribute to Fr. Pyle; Mass being concelebrated by Fr Pyle himself, Fr. Christopher Warren, Fr. Peter Stoddart, Fr Tony Barker, Fr. Mark Welehan, with Deacons Martin Bell and David Collins also participating. After Mass, well over 100 of Fr. Pyle’s family, friends and parishioners of the Heavenfield Partnership moved into the Parish Centre where an informal reception and buffet were enjoyed by all. Fr Pyle was quite overcome by the good wishes and support shown at this special day, and would like to thank all parishioners from Saint John’s and Saint Wilfrid’s who so generously donated to his splendid retirement gift.
Thank you for your many years of service, advice and guidance Fr. Pyle; we all wish you a blessed and restful retirement.
