THE YEAR OF THE WORD: “The God Who Speaks” launched on Sunday 1st December 2019, the First Sunday of Advent.
This year is devoted to raising the profile of Scripture amongst Catholics in England and Wales and began with a celebration of Vespers (Evening Prayer) from 4:30pm at five specially chosen venues throughout the Diocese, one of which was Saint Mary's, Hexham. Overall, this venture provided a real sense of praying together as a Diocese.
Many parishioners and several visitors from other parishes attended Vespers at Saint Mary's, which was led by Parish Priest Fr. Christopher Warren, ably assisted by our Permanent Deacon, Rev. Martin Bell. Overall, the event was a big success, with numerous attendees declaring it to be a "very uplifting and inspirational experience".
Special prayer cards are available for all parishioners to collect from within our churches, so that we can all continue to pray together as a Diocese: -
Living God, you walk alongside us and speak to us throughout the Scriptures.
Your Son, Jesus Christ, listens to our hopes and fears and shows us how to live for one another.
Send us the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and minds so that we may be your witnesses throughout the world.
